 Eighty kids squared
off against their peers to competed for the title of 2006
Junior Home Run Derby Champion as well as many great prizes.
Prizes and trophies were contributed by several area
businesses including: Century 21 Mortgage, Legacy Bank,
Security Service Federal Credit Union, Colorado Springs Sky
Sox Baseball Club, Countrywide Home Loans, Royal Gorge Bridge
and Park, CENTURY 21 Cañon Land & Investment Co. RealtorsÒ
, Canon City Mortgage, Stewart Title, Lite Loads Plus,
Grantham Appraisal Service, Kwik Stop, Pizza Madness, GMAC
Mortgage, Sonny’s Ace Home Center, Security Title Guaranty
Co., Bubba’s Sporting Goods, and Whitewater Adventure
Outfitters.
Third place
winners, Tyler Green (10-12), Nick Kimbrel (13-15) and Brian
Gangel (16-18), each received a Rawlings Premier Player
equipment bag; while second place winners, Jason McClellan
(10-12), Aaron Sanders (13-15) and Austin Smith (16-18),
received Colorado Rockies and Colorado Springs Sky Sox game
tickets. The ultimate prize, a framed and autographed Todd
Helton Colorado Rockies baseball jersey, went to first place
winners, Brandon Rix (10-12), Cody Sparks (13-15) and Josh Ary
(16-18).
"We have a lot of
very talented kids in our community and I think everyone
really enjoyed watching them pull out all the stops and clear
that home run fence," said Roger Oberhelman broker/owner of
CENTURY 21 Cañon Land & Investment Co. "I don’t think we could
have asked for a better competition. The weather cooperated.
We had a good turnout of spectators and participants. It was
just a terrific day at the ballpark."
